In 1974, Gene Bagwell formed Maintenance Management Company (MMC) to provide custodial services to municipal and corporate entities.  Having done this for three years, he expanded MMC's role to include grounds maintenance and horticultural services.

By 1980, Mr. Bagwell expanded MMC's services a second time, to include cemetery grounds maintenance after he acquired the City of San Marcos, Texas cemetery maintenance contract.  Five years later, San Marcos broadened the scope of its contract with MMC to include administration over burial properties and services.  In 1990, the City of San Marcos further extended their agreement to include "turn key" administrative services.

Due to his success in San Marcos, Mr. Bagwell and MMC were awarded a contract with the City of Austin, Texas to manage and operate its five municipal cemeteries.  With this, he created InterCare Corporation (ICC).  However, after realizing the need for quality burial services, he created Interment Services Incorporated (ISI) in 1995.  Working with its sister company, ICC, ISI began providing interment and related graveside services in Austin and the surrounding communities.

In March 2005, Mr. Bagwell once again expanded his corporate structure by creating a new company - Premier Cemetery Service Corporation.  Tailored specifically to work as a partner with the Texas General Land Office and the Texas Veterans Land Board, Premier will work toward meeting the state's mission of serving Texas' nearly two million veterans by managing and operating each of the four state veterans cemeteries.
